Lisbon again

Last year my sister decided to leave the professional workforce and return to school to get a graduate degree. This meant she had a super long winter holiday period. It also meant she was broke. As such, my Christmas present to her this year was to have an all expenses paid long weekend to somewhere in southern Europe.

We were trying to decide between Malaga and Lisbon, with my husband having a slight preference for Malaga (because it might be sunnier) and Sasha having a slight preference for Lisbon. Lisbon won out because: I had been there before and could be a tour guide. I was also desperate to see that coastline again.

I bought a bunch of random film from my drawer in an attempt to use up my backlog, including some film I've never shot before like colorplus and a rare 36 exposure roll of Fuji Venus. I also ran out of film and bought some XP2, which I sort of have never shot before. I shot everything on my T3 except for one roll of Foma Ortho, which I shot on the XA

Anyways here are those images.

First roll was some Lomo Sunkissed, actually the last of four rolls I bought in California and shot three rolls at Matt's wedding in July Act 2.

We get settled in our airbnb and then went out on the town.

Blew through that roll, and as the sun was going down I loaded the Venus 800, which I shot at 500 or 640.

The next morning, Saturday, was forecasted to be our only fully sunny day. I wanted to get out to the coast, and Sintra was on the way. I gave them the option of the Moorish Castle or the Quinta da Regaleira, and they chose the latter.

I also blew through a roll of Foma Ortho 400 on my XA, but overexposed it which turns out you're not supposed to do with Foma Ortho!

After a lunch in Sintra, we went to the Cabo da Roca and walked around. I finished up the Venus (and the ortho)

...And switched to colorplus. I had a roll of Fuji industrial 100 I've been saving for a special occaision, but it was kind of cloudy on the coast and I didn't want to have this rare film loaded for tomorrow when it was supposed to be overcast and rainy.

It turned out not to matter. The Portugese coast west of Lisbon is insanely beautiful, AND it was golden hour. I blew through the entire roll of colorplus then and there.

The forecast for the next few days was overcast with rain. We decided to check out Castelo de S. Jorge on the nearby hill. I loaded some Kodak Ultramax, which I had read does ok on overcast days.

Afterwards, we knew we wanted to check out this big market that has a bunch of different restaurants called Time Out. It wasn't raining yet so we walked there. I picked up a roll of XP2 on the way.

Dani found some Dan Dan noodles that actually tasted like Dan Dan noodles and freaked out. It then really started raining so we thought about going to the cinema, but I didn't have my glasses. We went home and I made them watch Se7en.

The next day was Sasha's last day. It was raining pretty hard but we were on a quest to try all of the famous Pasteis de Nata, and we still hadn't been to Belém yet. We had our usual breakfast at Curva (we ate there literally every morning), then ubered to the Torre de Belém, walked around, then walked to Pastéis de Belém. Sash left for the airport, then Dani and I went back to Time Out so he could get those Dan Dan noodles again.

The next day was just a travel day. We got up, went to Curva, and flew home.

A very nice little trip! Would definitely come back for a third time when the weather is a little better to explore the coast more and watch the surfers.
